Amelia Jean Kelly

Amelia Jean Kelly, President and Senior Counsel of The Seaport Title Agency Ltd. has been involved in the title insurance industry since 1977. She earned her law degree from St. John’s University School of Law and was admitted to the Bar in 1979. She has been Counsel to three major underwriters, Security Title and Guaranty Company, Commonwealth Land Title Insurance Company and First American Title Insurance Company of New York in their Long Island operations, with underwriting responsibility for both commercial and residential transactions.
Mrs. Kelly currently serves as a member of the Title and Transfer Committee of the Real Property Section of the New York State Bar Association and has been a member of the Executive Committee of the New York State Land Title Association since 2008. This year she also serves as Chair of the Education Committee. She is also a Member of the Queens County and Nassau County Bar Associations.
Mrs. Kelly has been a frequent lecturer on title insurance matters in Continuing Legal Education programs sponsored by First American Title Insurance Company of New York, the New York State Bar Association, and the Queens and Nassau County Bar Associations. Topics included Surveys and Title Insurance, Trust Issues in Title Insurance, Marketability of Title, Policies and Endorsements in New York State, as well as lectures giving a nuts and bolts overview of title insurance for newly admitted attorneys. She has also been a guest speaker before the New York State Association of Professional Land Surveyors and one of its regional affiliates, Nassau-Suffolk Civil Engineers, Inc., on the topic of Surveys and Title Insurance, and before the Suffolk County Estate Planning Council on the topic of Real Property Issues in Estate Planning.
Her article, “Adverse Possession: Not a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” was published in The New York Law Journal on March 26, 1997. A second article, “Beyond the Lopez Law-Information and Analysis” was published in the Fall 2007 journal of the New York State Land Title Association, The Bulletin. In 2003, Mrs. Kelly was honored by The March of Dimes as one of its Women of Distinction.
